What is The Las Vegas Strip History?
The Strip as we know it today started with the El Rancho Vegas casino in 1941. The success of this casino led to another casino being built, Hotel Las Frontier, in 1942. Unfortunately, after standing for 20 years the El Rancho Vegas was destroyed by fire in 1960. Rumor has it that the Strip was named by a Police Officer from Los Angeles after his hometowns own ‘Sunset Strip’. When The Mirage was built in 1989, it set the bar higher for the Las Vegas experience leading to large resort-style casinos and hotels. These huge complexes offer entertainment, gambling and fine dining which affected some of the smaller casinos in the area. The Las Vegas Strip has a full and rich history that can be seen as you walk up and down the Strip. The diversity of the architecture from era to era is something to be seen.
